The upper and lower sections finely carved and decorated with riverscapes, including a scholar standing on a promontory near a pavilion as he looks out at the river, with a fisherman in his boat below, the design repeated in smaller format in the lower section, the middle section with two lively striding chilong separated by sprigs of lingzhi fungus, apocryphal Xuande mark to base

A similar example with a more elaborate chilong and fungus design in the Metropolitan Museum of Art is illustrated by S. G. Valenstein, A Handbook of Chinese Ceramics, New York, 1989 rev. ed., p. 223, pl. 215. A Kangxi-marked example is illustrated in Old Oriental Ceramics Donated by Mr. Yokogawa, Tokyo National Museum, 1953, cat. no. 372, while another was sold in these rooms, 29 March 2006, lot 439.
