Lot Essay

Robert Blackman says that one of the hardest things he ever did on Star Trek was re-creating Bill Theiss's original series costumes for "Trials and Tribble-ations" in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Not only was Blackman tightly constrained by both schedule and budget, but he knew that Star Trek's fans would scrutinize his work very closely to see if he had been faithful to the original show. Blackman's efforts (and those of his staff) were well worth it. Not only was "Trials and Tribble-ations" well-received by Star Trek fans, but many of his re-created costumes later served for the Starship Defiant crew in "In A Mirror, Darkly" in Star Trek: Enterprise.
