Although the flag in Admiral Paris's office hung on a pole, set decorator James Mees had the Starfleet Command emblem silkscreened onto it anyway, just in case the camera happened to catch a glimpse of it. Mees used the established emblem, but selected the bright canary-yellow fabric to complement the set decor.
