A simulated desktop computer monitor having a metallic brown case, nonfunctional lighting circuit would illuminate a backlit graphic transparency to create a simulated computer image on the screen -- 12½x11½x11½in -- used as set dressing in living quarters for Paris, Tuvok, Chakotay, and others

Lot Essay

When these props were made, full-color flat panel computer diplays did exist, but they were very expensive and did not generally look good when photographed at oblique angles. That's why property master Alan Sims preferred to use the tried-and-true technique of backlit art for these computer props. Prices for computer flat panel screens dropped considerably while Voyager was in production, but Sims still preferred the rich colors and sharp details that were possible with these simulated screens.
