CIRCA 1780, THE DIAL SIGNED 'ROBIN HGR DU ROI'
The circular white enamel dial with Arabic hours and minute chapters within a shaped rectangular case with columnar fluting flanking a central tablet relief depicting Cupid bearing a love torch and bow, the sides with trailing fruit and foliage, surmounted by figures of Cupid and Venus, separated by a book inscribed 'Education de Vénus a L'amour', on a shaped rectangular base with frieze relief depicting frolicking putti, the ends with paterae, on turned feet, dial and movement possibly associated

Lot Essay

A clock of identical model signed AUBERT Lne A PARIS, previously in the hôtel of general Moreau, rue d'Anjou, Paris until 1804, is now conserved at the Musée National de Château de Fontainebleau and is illustrated in J.P. Samoyault, Pendules et bronzes d'ameublement entrés souls le Premier Empire, Paris 1989, pendule 3, p. 48. A further example signed by the enameller Dubuisson is in the Musée du Louvre, Paris, and is illustrated in D. Alcouffe, et. al, Gilt Bronzes in the Louvre, Dijon, 2004, no. 103, pp. 204-205.
