Lot Essay

With its distinctive ruffled spray cartouche to the center of the seatrail, this fauteuil typifies the oeuvre of the Cresson dynasty of menuisiers, founded by Charles and Jean Cresson during the Régence. Established in the rue de Cléry, their seat furniture shares much with that of their cousins Rene, Louis I (both maître in 1738) and Michel (maître ) in 1740. The oeuvre of the various members of the family is closely related to each other and a specific attribution to one of them is not possible.
