Scarabs, dating back to Ancient Egypt as symbols of rebirth, were often immortalized as jewelry or amulets to be carried for good luck and to ward off bad spirits.

This practice continues to this day and reached a pinnacle of inventiveness and design during the mid to late 19th century as the scrab form was adapted to a pendant watch case, often finely chased and enameled as seen with the present watch. Of Patek Philippe manufacture, this watch retailed by Tiffany, shows a pervading demand across the continents for both high quality form watches and the scarab's charms.
