Lot Essay

This fragment comes from a medallion carpet which must have been made at the beginning of the period of production; its drawing is excellent and the colours strong and clear. Both these features including the border design are very similar indeed to those of the Thyssen Bornemisza blue ground medallion Ushak carpet (Friedrich Spuhler, The Thyssen Bornemisza Collection: Carpets and Textiles, Castagnola, 1998, no.6, pp.44-5).
