Lot Essay

François Linke acquired a model of the present guéridon at the Millet sale held in 1905. Two years later, he produced his first copy, listed as no. 1390, and complete with a porcelain vase imitating porphyry. The model proved popular and Christpher Payne records Linke making a total of at least eight further tables, each with a blue porcelain vase supplied by Samson (C. Payne, François Linke: 1855 - 1946, The Belle Epoque of French Furniture, Woodbridge, 2003, p. 208).
