PRE-COLUMBIAN ART FROM THE KEMPER COLLECTIONS
Over the last fifty years Ms. Kate Kemper, born in Germany in 1908, has been able to bring together a remarkable and extended collection of Pre-Columbian art. It was her visit to Peru, many years ago, that compelled her to collect only Peruvian art and many visits followed which enhanced her love for this country. Almost all objects were acquired in Europe, often on combined trips she had to make for her company, which she owned and managed. In between she still found time to write two books about her life during the Second World War. 'Die Bittere Wahrheit' was published in 1978 and 'Ich Klage An' in 1986.
She is now offering a selection of approximately 200 ceramics for sale. The proceeds from this sale will be donated to orphanages in developing countries.
The Pre-Columbian Art from the Kemper Collections gives a broad survey of the development of Peruvian ceramics, spanning approximately 2000 years.
The importance of her collection has been generally acknowledged, as larger parts have been exhibited in many museums throughout Europe, like 'Ancient Peruvian Art' at the Arts Council, London, 1962 and 'Alt Peru, Die Sammlung Kemper', Landesmuseum, Münster, 1972. References to both catalogues are only made when an object was illustrated in one of these publications.
The selection of Ms. Kemper's Pre-Columbian Art Collection enables everyone the opportunity to acquire an object from an ancient culture, which was brought together with much love and with the eye of a connoisseur!
It is Ms. Kemper's hope and wish, that others will continue to keep up the remembrance of Peru's past glory.
