Anthonie Beerstraaten was an Amsterdam painter whose career can be dated to circa 1639-65. He is known for winter landscapes and Mediterranean harbor views, as well as scenes of daily life in Amsterdam, such as the present work. Anthonie may be the brother of Jan Abrahamsz. Beerstraaten, an artist who specialized in similar subjects.
