Pamela Hanson, recognized internationally as one of today's leading fashion photographers, was born in London to American parents, and raised in Geneva. In the early 1980s, she moved to Paris, and living between there and London, began her career as a fashion photographer. Her agent at that time was Fiona Cowan, the wife of Andy Cowan, the then co-owner/director of the Hamiltons Gallery in London. It was through these relationships and circumstances that Hanson embarked upon a 25 year journey of collecting the objects from her own world, those which she knew most intimately - photographs. Hanson's collecting activities can be described much in the same way that one would describe her own approach to her profession: driven by intuition, spontaneity, and a self-assured feeling. Just as there is a coherence and consistency to her professional work, the same is true of the objects in this collection. Whether purchased from a gallery or directly from a photographer who happened to be a friend, the group of works comprise a collection whose quintessence is based on a pure reaction to and love of the photographic image. It is Christie's distinct honor and pleasure to have been entrusted with the dispersal of these photographs. They are objects that were collected over many years by a woman who possesses the utmost integrity of spirit - evidenced not only by her own collecting activities but mirrored by her professional accomplishments as well.
