Lot Essay

In a letter to the client dated July 20th 1956 Barnsley states:
"I have suggested blackbean with some decoration of holly and rosewood, but if you prefer it could be in some other material" and later "The top right hand drawer could be fitted with shallow sliding tray, with partictions [sic], for stamps, pins etc etc. And the top could have leather writing panel if this is prefered to the plain wood".
The client agreed to the sliding drawer but not to the leather writing panel.
The desk was completed by 8th October 1956 and Barnsley wrote to the client advising that he would arrange transportation.
