Lot Essay

Gasq (d. 1944) specialised in figures and bas-reliefs of classical and allegorical subjects. He studied at the Dijon School of Fine Arts and L'Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Jouffroy and Hiolle, and exhibited at the Salon beginning in 1880. Gasq won the Prix de Rome in 1890, and a Grand Prix at the Exposition Universelle of 1900, becoming a member of the Institut in 1935.
