Each life-size nude wearing a lion pelmet and supporting a gadrooned urn, standing on a naturalistic base above a swivelling lion-mask and fruit-carved plinth

Lot Essay

Valentino Besarel (d. 1902) worked extensively for the Prince of Wales. He was awarded the Grande Médaille d'Or at the Paris 1878 Exposition Universelle and subsequently become Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur. Many of his works may be seen in Italian churches, especially in Este and Padova.
