Lot Essay

Regarded in its day as one of the great works of modern sculpture, together with groups entitled Military Courage, Science and Faith, Dubois's group Charity, exhibited at the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1878, formed part of the tomb of General Lamoricière at Nantes, and was subsequently edited in six sizes by Barbedienne.
