LANDSCAPE NEAR BARBIZON, OIL ON CANVAS, UNFRAMED, WITH STUDIO STAMP BY CHARLES PAUL SEAILLES
The painter was the wife of philosopher Gabriel Séailles (1852-1922). She utilized the first name Charles-Paul in homage to her father. Eugène Carrière was a great friend of the couple and was also the teacher of Charles-Paul. The Séailles, who lived in Paris, had built a house in the village of Barbizon, called 'Les Alouettes', where Charles-Paul would regularly work. This painting was probably painted in these surroundings.
