Inlaid overall with satinwood banding and boxwood lines, the stepped hinged top enclosing bottle divisions, above scrolled sides, on downswept legs, brass paw caps and casters, the lock stamped 'HOBBS & CO. LONDON', inscribed in yellow chalk '5781'

Lot Essay

The Grecian sarcophagus cellaret with ribboned inlay is composed of an Apollo lyre chest on scrolled legs terminating in Bacchic lion-paws. It is designed in the antique fashion popularised by Thomas Sheraton's publications of around 1800.
