Each volume contains the bookplate of Manydown Park, home of Harris Bigg-Wither, who, on 2 November 1802, proposed to Jane Austen and was accepted (she changed her mind overnight). Subsequent printed ownership slip of 'Locker, Fredk. Esq.' pasted to free endpaper of vol. one and his bookplate on rear pastedown of each vol. except vol.3, and his bookplate of a different design on front free endpaper of vol. 2. Initialled pencil note by Locker quoting Gibbon on Fielding and commenting on 'digression from the main story'. Presentation inscription from Frederick Locker[-Lampson]'s daughter and son-in-law: 'To O.M. from Eleanor and Augustine Birrell March 1915'. Pencilled note and page references apparently by Morrell in vols. 2 and 3, with occasional light markings in text.
