Gertler and Huxley stayed in adjoining rooms at Garsington in 1917, and Ottoline Morrell recorded in her memoirs how 'Gertler used to tell us how he was kept awake half the night by Aldous ... meditating aloud on the vast problems of love' (Ottoline at Garsington, p.204). (2)
