Morrell's brother, Lord Henry Bentinck, had had a philosophy tutor after Oxford named Philip Bagenal who was a passionate admirer of Hardy, so she grew up thinking of him as one of the most distinguished writers of an earlier generation. Lady Ottoline's Journal records a further visit made to the Hardy's in August 1925 (pp.52-59).
