Best known now for his friendship with Oscar Wilde, Robert Ross knew Ottoline Morrell through the Contemporary Art Society and played an important part in her life, introducing her to Siegfried Sassoon after he had been invalided home from the Somme in 1916. In Siegfried's Journey, Sassoon recalled asking Ross about her after she had sent him an admiring letter in response to a poem of his in The Times. Ross also helped and advised Graves. (4)
