S. SASSOON. Collected Poems. London: Faber and Faber Limited, 1947. 8° (202 x 132mm). (Occasional light spotting.) Original green cloth, spine gilt. FIRST EDITION. Keynes A52a.

A LETTER DISCUSSING THE OLD CENTURY AND DESCRIBING HOW TO FIND HIS CHILDHOOD HOME, 'WEIRLEIGH'. Sassoon thanks Dakers for his letter, stating that, 'It always gives me satisfaction to hear that the books have been a comfort to "service men" [Dakers served in the Army from 1943 to 1947], & like all old fogies I appreciate recognition of merit by the younger generation!'. He then directs Dakers to The Old Century -- 'which some people consider my best bit of writing in prose' -- for an account of his early years, and tells him how to find the places described, concluding that the countryside still retains it charm -- 'though there was a ghastly plan of making Paddock Wood into a "satellite town"!'.
