Lot Essay

The general cargo vessel Kielder Castle was built at Newcastle in 1868 for the Northumberland Steamship Company. Registered at 878 tons and measuring 222 feet in length with a 29 foot beam, she traded out of London to the Black Sea until sold to Chilean owners in 1881.
