a postal cover, dated Stamford, October Seventh, 1800, stamped "Oct 8, 1800", bearing signature of 9th Earl of Winchilsea (tear to lower right corner)

George Finch, 9th Earl of Winchilsea, was President of Hambledon Club in 1787 and 1789 and was a member of the White Conduit Club. He, with others, persuaded Thomas Lord to found his cricket ground and thus was amongst the founding members of the M.C.C.
