He made his debut for Wales on the 1st January 1910 against France, scoring a try in a 49-14 win. Two weeks later, Gronow made history by kicking off the first international at Twickenham, against England. Later that year he signed for Huddersfield Rugby League Club and played a significant part of the famous "Team of all Talents", winning all 4 cups in 1914-15. He still holds Huddersfield club's record of kicking 147 goals in a season, in 1919-20. He played for England against Australia in 1911 and toured with the Lions in Australia in 1920 and 1924.

Lot Essay

The above shirt was worn by Ben Gronow for the England v. Wales international on the 15th January 1910, the first international match to be staged at Twickenham. Gronow earned his place in history by kicking off in this significant match. Wales were later defeated 11-6.
