The first confrontation between a British and American frigate and reportedly the time when the Constitution earned her name of 'Old Ironsides'. After a gallant fight Capt. James Dacres of the British Guerriere was forced to surrender to the American Capt. Isaac Hull. The British ship was so damaged it was destroyed by Hull.
