the complete set of 96 etchings and aquatints in two volumes, 1923-7, title, text and justification, 11 etched vignettes for chapter headings and 11 index plates carrying outline etchings of the prints, on Arches or MBM, signed in ink on the justification and inscribed 'Pour Jean Mitchell en bon Souvenir -- Chagall' in black crayon on the title, copy 259 of 285 (the total book edition was 368), with full margins, loose (as issued), a few plates with offsetting and pale staining, otherwise in very good conditon, the title pages within paper wrappers (pale foxing on the outside), original cream paper-covered boards and slipcase with titles on the spines (minor wear). 390 x 295 mm.
