A hand-painted scroll in ink and colours depicting in twenty well-painted scenes the erotic adventures and subsequent misadventures of three fishermen driven off course by a storm at sea and forced to land on the Island of Women - a Japanese version of a very ancient folk- tale first recorded by Homer who chronicled the tribulations of Ulysses when he was shipwrecked on the island of the nymph Calypso, and later when he and his crew were held captive by Circe the enchantress on the island of Aeaea, very good colours and condition
