Second edition of one of the 'Pythagorean' Tryon's medico-dietetic works. 'His writings are a curious mixture of mystical philosophy [inspired by Böhme] and dietetics, his objects being, as he himself informs us, to "recommend to the world temperance, cleanness, and innocency of living..."' (DNB). A spinner, shepherd and hatter before the age of eighteen, the author eventually became a successful businessman in the City but without compromising his mystical beliefs and vegetarianism. Benjamin Franklin was greatly influenced by his The Way to Health and his dietary ideas were largely plagiarised by Joseph Ritson in his Essay on Abstinence from Animal Food, 1802. Wing T3181 (3 copies in England only).
