KRUCHENIKH, Aleksei Eliseevich, Velimir KHLEBNIKOV and Natalya GONCHAROVA (illustrator). Igra v' adu. Poema. [A Game in Hell. Poem]. Moscow: [Kuz'min and Dolinskii, 1912].
8° (185 x 142 mm). 15 lithographs by Goncharova, lithographed manuscript text throughout. (Slight browning, last leaves with small marginal tears.) Original wrappers with lithographed title cover (slightly worn).
FIRST EDITION OF THIS FUTURIST LANDMARK. ONE OF ONLY 300 COPIES. The first collaboration between these three leading artists, Igra v' adu is among the first Russian books with fully lithographed manuscript. 'With a profusion of striking illustrations', it 'draws our attention for [its] shocking originality', and parodies publications of the Orthodox Church (The Russian Avant-Garde Book, p.42). This tale of a card game between devils and sinners was so successful, both financially and artistically, that a second edition with revised text and illustrations by Rozanova and Malevich was published in 1914. The Russian Avant-Garde Book 7, ills. p.70; Hellyer 224.
