A CONTINENTAL GOLD-MOUNTED TORTOISESHELL BONBONNIÈRE SET WITH A MINIATURE
probably Swiss or German, circa 1790/1795, with two indistinct marks
Circular blonde tortoiseshell box, the lid set with a glazed miniature of a lady in the guise of Diana the Huntress, loose white dress revealing her breasts, red sash tied in a bow, fur cloak draped over her right arm and holding a quiver in her right hand, silver crescent and red ribbon in her long dark hair, foliate background, stamped gold mounts with raised beaded border, the sides of cover and base with plain gold mounts
