Lot Essay

The parallel hatching and the fluid lines of the pen are characteristic of Bertoia: comparable examples are in the British Museum (A.E. Popham, Italian Drawings in the Department of Prints and Drawings in the British Museum, Artists working in Parma, London, 1967, nos. 233, 235, pls. 144, 148) and at Chatsworth, (D. DeGrazia, Bertoia, Mirola and the Farnese Court, Washington, 1991, D4, pl. 188).
