Lot Essay

Luigi Spezzaferro reads the insciption identifying the central figure in this scene as Sanesio, the name of an important Roman family who owned a number of pictures by Mola (Lugano, op. cit., under no. 104). For the relationship between Mola and Simonelli see note to lot 34 in this sale.
