AN EGYPTIAN LIMESTONE RELIEF
NEW KINGDOM, DYNASTY XIX-XX, 1307-1070 B.C.
Sculpted in sunk relief, with the figure of a kneeling man facing right, his hands raised before him in adoration, wearing a pleated garment, his head cleanly-shaven, the facial features well defined, including a long brow and conforming cosmetic line, with four partially-preserved vertical columns of hieroglyphs, part of a Htp-di-nsw funerary offering formula reading: 1) "[An offering which the king gives (to) ... 2) Amen-Re King of the Gods], Foremost in Karnak, nurturer(?) ... 3) ... and all the gods, that they may give a goodly burial after old age ... 4) [on the We]est side of Thebes, the desert of the Two Maats, for the Ka of the Overseer of ..."; with red pigment preserved for flesh-tones, blue within some of the hieroglyphs
