A ROMAN MARBLE FUNERARY STELE FOR STRATONIKE
CIRCA MID 2ND CENTURY A.D.
Trapezoidal in form, tapering to the overhanging pediment, adorned with a disk at the center, a leaf in each corner, palmettes on the acroteria, the front panel carved with a wreath above an eight-line inscription reading, "In the year 244 on the 9th of [the month] Loios, Apollonis honored Stratonike, his wife, Apollothemis [honored] his mother, Apollothemis and Apphia [honored] their daughter-in-law, and [so do] all the family members," a rectangular tenon below
