A SMALL WHITE JADE MYTHICAL BEAST, BIXIE
LATE MING DYNASTY, 16TH/17TH CENTURY

Finely carved from a small pebble, the beast modelled with a single horn, its hooved legs tucked under its body, curled in a recumbent position, biting a lotus stem with the blossom resting on its back, the stone of a creamy-white tone with areas of russet inclusions
