2 parts in one volume, 4o (209 x 161 mm). Engraved printer's device on title, engraved allegorical title, and 168 engraved plates of Greek and Roman celebrities from gems, coins, and marbles by Theodore Galle. 19th-century French olive green morocco gilt in contemporary style, with central coat-of-arms of Maria de Médici, widow of Henry IV, within a semé of alternate interlaced "M" and "S," and a border of two rool tolls, three double fillets and a single fillet, gilt, painted and gauffered edges, spine in six compartments, decorated with alternate "MM" and "S" monograms (wear to corners, upper spine end with ½-in. chip, joints splitting). Provenance: early ink inscription recording Ursinus's death in Rome, 1600; Lucius Wilmerding (bookplate, sale 6 March 1951, part II, lot 635); purchased from Emil Offenbacher (n.d.)
