En 1927 Tristam Hillier quitte Londres pour Paris où il étudia à l'Académie Colarossi sous la direction d'André Lhote. Hillier fut fortement influencé par le mouvement Surréaliste alors, ses compositions sont caractérisées par des paysages lunaires clairsemés de formes dont se dégage un inquiétant silence.
In 1927 Tristam Hillier left London for Paris where he joined the Academy Colarossi under the tutelage of André Lhote. Strongly influenced by the surrealist movement thriving at this time, his compositions are characterized by hard-edged clarity and sparsely-populated landscapes which radiate an eerie silence.
