Lot Essay

In 1929 the Permeke family settled a new house called De vier winden. It was situated in Jabbeke, a village near Ostend. From then the country of Jabbeke and the surrounding villages became an important source of inspiration. De rode daken, which was probably realised that year was one of his favorite subjects and was painted in several versions.
