A PAIR OF FLINTLOCK TURN-OFF PISTOLS BY E. NORTH (1), ROYL EXCHANGE, LONDON Circa 1755-60
With three-stage cannon barrels, the breeches signed and engraved with a band of scrolling foliage, inscribed 'London' below the steel-springs, engraved tangs, border-engraved actions (the top jaws replaced), engraved trigger-guard safety-catches, swelling figured walnut butts carved with a shell in low relief behind the tangs, silver side-plates and escutcheons each cast in low relief as trophies-of-arms, the latter engraved with owner's crest, and grotesque mask butt-caps also cast in low relief (the side-plate rubbed), London proof marks, silver maker's mark IP.
