AN ITALIAN SWEPT-HILT RAPIER
Second quarter of the 17th Century
With long slender tapering blade of stiff-diamond section, rectangular ricasso, iron three-ring hilt of slender hexagonal bars decorated with mouldings at the median points, inner-and outer-guards incorporating a large up-turned double shell-guard punched and engraved with sprays of flowers, faceted globular pommel (associated) and wooden grip bound with cord (binding incomplete).
