A RARE FRENCH GILT-BRONZE POWDER-FLASK
Late 16th Century
With cartouche-shaped body of rectangular section and formed of three parts joined by five bolts, engraved rectangular top, and tapering nozzle (cut-off missing), the frontal plate boldly decorated with a Satyr mask embossed in high relief, the rear engraved with a Mannerist design of scrollwork swagged with elaborate arrangements of fruit, the sides engraved with a further Mannerist design of scrolls and strapwork involving a pair of demon masks, and with four rings hung with a later decorative cord.
