A LARGE TRIANGULAR POWDER-FLASK OF THE TYPE CARRIED BY MUSKETEERS OF THE SAXON ELECTORAL TRABANTENLEIBGARDE
With wooden body covered with black fabric (pile rubbed), encased in etched pierced iron plates front and rear, with additional shaped small plates at the sides, rectangular iron top with cut-off incorporating a ring thumbpiece, etched tapering nozzle with sprung cap, pierced slotted belt hook and five rings at the sides (one missing), decorated with characteristic designs of scrolling foliage sparsely sown with flowerheads, the frontal plate pierced with addorsed pairs of C-scrolls carrying a cartouche etched with the arms of Saxony impaling those of the Hereditary Archmarshallship of the Holy Roman Empire, and all on a contrasting blackened granular ground.
