In-8 (190 x 130 mm). 112 pp., encadrement rouge sur chaque page ; 6 gravures libres hors texte, en couleurs, tirées sur vélin. (Brunissure affectant les deux gardes.)

Demi-percaline verte à coins, titre doré au dos, double filet doré aux mors.

Édition en anglais imprimée sur Hollande Van Gelder, ornée de 6 gravures en couleurs illustrant le récit du viol d'une jeune boutiquière de Londres par Frederick Calvert, Baron Baltimore, descendant des fondateurs de l'état du Maryland et de la ville de Baltimore aux Etats-Unis. Poursuivi en justice en 1768, Lord Baltimore fut finalement acquitté, la victime Sarah Woodcock ayant été reconnue consentante.

On connaît, par Ashbee, une édition due au célèbre éditeur William Dugdale en 1840, puis une réédition illustrée de 8 gravures parue vers 1860. Notre édition est inconnue d'Ashbee, Mendes et Kearney. Ashbee-Catena III-138 (pour l'éd. de 1860).

Further details
Second or third edition of the work describing the rape of Sarah Woodcock by Lord Baltimore, member of the family of the founders of the American state of the same name. Following the trial Lord Baltimore was acquitted since Mrs Woodcock was said having been consenting.
