A PAIR OF BRONZE FIGURES OF SOPHOCLES (?) AND DEMOSTHENES
AFTER THE ANTIQUE, PROBABLY ROMAN, 19TH CENTURY
Each depicted standing in contrapposto and classically dressed; Sophocles with a basket of scrolls at his feet and Demosthenes holding a scroll in his hands; each on an integral rectangular bronze plinth; medium brown patina and lighter high points
19 1/8 and 19½ in. (48.5 and 49.5 cm.) high (2)
Literature
The colour of the catalogue illustration is very close to that of the actual bronzes.
General dents and scratches to the surface due to age and handling.
Very minor wear to the patina.
Otherwise in excellent condition overall.
