Chambertin--Vintage 1985
Côte de Nuits, Maison Leroy
Levels: 2cm; one signs of seepage, one stained neck label
"This was a much better bottle than the one I had at the huge Chambertin tasting in October of 2002. Explosively fresh and nuanced red fruit aromas cut with earth and underbrush lead to relatively fine, intense and focused flavors of real breed and class, not to mention impressive length. I very much like the style here and while this is by no means a big Chambertin, it is very pretty and elegant. Enjoyable now as it has softened nicely but it will continue to hold well if stored properly. Another recent bottle was amazingly tannic and did not drink at all like an '85 though it was impressively vibrant in a burly, almost inelegant fashion." BH, September 2, 2005
