"In a vintage that produced so many austere, spartan-styled wines, Certan de May turned out one of the vintage's stars. The wine has retained a vigor and youthfulness that makes me believe it will be one of the longer-lived examples of the vintage. The color remains a healthy dark ruby with no lightening at the edge. A reticent aroma offers mineral, black cherry, earthy, and spice notes. On the palate, the wine is powerful and rich, somewhat austere, yet remarkably layered, thick Pomerol that is atypical for the vintage.
