Lot Essay

After her studies at the Royal Academy in Stockholm, Agnes de Frumerie moved to Paris where she became acquianted with Rodin. She embraced the Symbolist movement and collaborated for while with the master ceramist Adrien Dalpayrat and then the equally famous Edmond Lachenal. Her work achieved enormous success and she was praised by the critics of the time and participated often in the Paris Salon exhibitions. In this elegant 1901 vase de Frumerie has sculpted the joyous mythological celebration of the three Muses, 'Clio,''Urania' and 'Melpomene' after their poetry victory over the Pierides on Mount Helicon.
