The rectangular bevelled plate with a bevelled mirror border divided by scrolled acanthus panels and applied with stylised scallop shell and c-scroll cartouches, the pierced composite capitals surmounted by a shaped mirrored cresting surrounded by a shell-headed cartouche with Emperor profile medallion flanked by acanthus scrolls, replacements to border plates, originally with further apron, inscribed in blue chalk to the reverse '474387', minor losses

Lot Essay

The French triumphal-arched mirror, with ribbon-fretted and shell-enriched, pilasters relates to the Louis Quatorze Roman fashion popularised by the engraved oeuvres of the Paris-trained architect Daniel Marot (d.1752) and to a mirror sold Christie's London, 21 June 2000, lot 88.
